From Save the Victor Hall website, a great resource and labor of love

Colorado was part of the Western energy and resource extraction empire in the early 20th century.

For Mother Jones, defeating this empire and replacing it with a workers republic was an essential goal.

Trade unionists, socialists and others were the center of contesting Rockefeller and others. It was a brutal war and is still not part of American history textbooks.

2014 was the 100th year anniversary of the Ludlow Massacre, in which 11 children and 2 women were snuffed out as the huddled in caverns beneath their tents, after having survived a horrific winter kicked out of their company-owned houses.

We will be posting about that and many other events and struggles in Colorado.

Mother Jones and the spirit of defiance, 1914

Mother Jones and the spirit of defiance, 1914. Mother Jones was imprisoned for a total of 3 months in early 1914, without habeas corpus rights (the right to be charged before imprisoned) because her speeches were considered dangerous. This cartoon depicts the respect working class people had for an old woman who would defy the militia.
